Type

B10 DEV AO U50 called “courte” (short).

UIC number Revision date
51 87 20-57 708-0 4 31.3.72
51 87 20-57 696-7 4 3.5.72

127 to 128 g (NEM: 107 to 140 g)

Y16E bogies, perfectly compliant for 1950 coaches. Axle length 24.15 mm.

That’s fine, REE oblige: I appreciate the ribs reinforcing backs, the brake bleeding handles, the even maybe exaggerated detailing of the bogies, etc.

The table of dimensions shows that, contrary to what is said on the Loco-Revue forum, the REE models are actually too low, not the Hornby-Jouef too high! In addition, there is a slight difference in height between the two ends. Apart from that, the scale respect is almost perfect.

There is a 3-point suspension. The brake linkages are very fragile, and some, poorly mounted, brake their axle.

One of the main criticisms concerns the roof, whose connection with the body is too visible and irregular. Of course, it is not easy to achieve — except by moulding the body and the roof together — since, in reality, there is no visible connection at this place. Another regret: the spring buffers, and therefore with their plate crooked, and useless since the gap between two coupled coaches is far from zero!

More annoying to me: there is clearly an positioning error of small windows, error identified by Renato on the Loco-Revue Forum. See dedicated page.

Modifications

  • Electric heating cables mounted. Wedges for raising coaches by 0.5 mm.
  • Lighting by conductive bearings, controlled by latching reedswitch.
  • Coach No. 708 fitted with connectors for removable tail lamps. See the pages on this subject.

The DEV A0 U50 coaches are part of U48 to U54 programs. They are called short (overall length 23.344 m) as opposed to long (overall length 25.094 m) of programs U55 to U59.

The B10 DEV A0 U50 were C10myfi at the origin, therefore 3rd class, built in 100 units and delivered between 1952 and 1954.

We see on the table opposite that there is no U50 in the Nord. However, the U52s were very close except for the gateway door panes, rectangular for the U50, porthole shaped for U52. The numbers of the coaches issued by REE correspond to the Sud-Ouest fleet, where they were all grouped at the end of the 1970s.
